Netherlands Gambling License 2021

On February 19, 2019, the Netherlands Senate approved the bill on remote games of chance ("Koa Act"). This means that it will become possible to apply for a license in the Netherlands for offering online games of chance. How to prepare?

The Netherlands Government has previously indicated that the target date for the Koa Act to enter into force is 1 January 2021. As of that date, applications for an online gambling license can be submitted to the Gaming Authority. In addition, the Koa Act tightens the requirements in the field of addiction prevention. Online gambling is currently prohibited in the Netherlands.

The current legal regime has no possibilities for granting a license to offer online games of chance. The online market opens six months after the Koa Act comes into force. The Netherlands Regulator Kansspelautoriteit is estimating that approximately 90 licenses shall be granted.

Gaming Legal Group assists candidates to prepare for the application process via a tailor made Quickscan procedure.
